He transmitted several hadiths.
He himself reported directly from Mu‘ādh ibn Jabal and Abū ʿUbaydah.
Among those who narrated from him are: Abū Idrīs al-Khawlānī, Jubayr ibn Nufayr, Abū Rajāʾ al-ʿAṭāridī, Abū Asmāʾ al-Raḥabī, Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, Abū al-Zāhiriyyah, and Makḥūl—if, indeed, he heard from him—together with ʿUmayr ibn Hāniʾ and others.
He settled in the Levant.
Some say he resided in Darayyā; others say in the village of al-Balāṭ (1), where he left descendants.
Scholars disagreed about his personal name:
• It was said that he was Jurhum ibn Nāshim; this was the view of Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal, Ibn Maʿīn, Ibn al-Madīnī, Ibn Saʿd, and Abū Bakr ibn Zanjawayh.
• Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz said he was Jurthūm ibn Lāshir.
• Hishām ibn ʿAmmār held that he was Jurthūm ibn ʿAmr.
• Ibn Sumayʿ maintained that his name was simply Jurthūm.
• The ḥāfiẓ ʿAbd al-Ghanī al-Azdī (2) said he was Jurthūm ibn Nāshir.
• Al-Bukhārī stated that his name was Jurhum.
It is also said that he was Jurthūm ibn Nāshim; or Ibn Nāshib; or Ibn ʿAmr.
Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah asserted that his name was Lāshir ibn Ḥimyar, and this opinion was adopted by al-Dūlābī.
