Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi
  1. Saʿīd ibn Yarbuʿ al-Qurashī (d)

He was the elder of the Banū Makhzūm and one of those who embraced Islam at the time of the Conquest. He likewise lived for one hundred and twenty years, as did Ḥakīm ibn Ḥizām and Ḥassān ibn Thābit. Saʿīd transmitted a hadith that Abū Dāwūd recorded (1); it was narrated from him by his son ʿAbd al-Raḥmān. The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—won his allegiance with fifty camels from the spoils of Ḥunayn (2). He was also among those who renewed the boundary markers of the Sacred Precinct (al-ḥaram). In his later years he lost his sight, and he died in the year 54 AH.
