His Musnad contains around one hundred hadith reports, counting repeated chains. The two leading Imams, al-Bukhari and Muslim, are agreed upon eight of them; al-Bukhari transmits two additional ones on his own, and Muslim six.
109 – Abū al-Yasar Kaʿb ibn ʿAmr al-Anṣari * (M, 4)
Al-Sulami, al-Madani, a participant at Badr and at the Pledge of ʿAqaba; he is the Companion who captured al-ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with him) on the Day of Badr. He witnessed the Pledge at ʿAqaba when he was twenty years old. He was also the one who tore the idolaters’ banner from them at Badr, and his virtues are many.
Those who narrated from him include Ṣayfī, the freedman of Abū Ayyūb; ʿUbādah ibn al-Walīd al-Ṣāmitī; Mūsā ibn Ṭalḥah; Ḥanzalah ibn Qays; and others. Only a few hadith are related from him.
It was said that he was stocky, short, thick-set (1), with a prominent belly. He fought at Ṣiffīn on ʿAlī’s side and was among the last of the veterans of Badr.
He died in Medina in the year 55 AH (2).
