‘When a noble man from among a people comes to you, honour him.’ (1)
Jaʿfar ibn Ahmad ibn Bassam also transmitted it, from Abu Safwan al-Madani, from Ḥafṣ, with this same wording.
A similar report was related by Muslim ibn Ibrāhīm, from ʿAwn ibn ʿAmr, from al-Jurayrī, from Ibn Buraydah, from Yaḥyā ibn Maʿmar, from Jarīr.
Ibrāhīm al-Nakhaʿī narrated—on the authority of Hammām—that he saw Jarīr urinate, then perform wuḍūʾ and wipe over his leather socks. I asked him about it and he replied, ‘I saw the Prophet ﷺ do that.’ Ibrāhīm added, ‘This pleased the Companions, because Jarīr was among the last to embrace Islam.’ (2)
Ibn Abī Khālid, from Qays, from Jarīr, reported that the Prophet ﷺ said to him, ‘Will you not relieve me of Dhū al-Khalasa—the shrine of Khathʿam?’ It used to be called “the Southern Kaʿbah.”
Jarīr said, ‘So we demolished it—or burned it—until we left it like a mangy camel. I then sent word to the Prophet ﷺ with the good news, and he invoked blessings upon the cavalry of Ahmas and its riders five times.
‘I said, “Messenger of Allah, I am a man who cannot keep steady on horseback.” He placed his hand on my face—according to Yaḥyā al-Qaṭṭān: he placed his hand on my chest—and supplicated, “O Allah, make him a guide who is himself rightly guided.”
‘In another version: I set out with one hundred and fifty horsemen from Ahmas.’ (3)
Abu Ghassān al-Nahdī said: Sulaymān ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Jarīr narrated to us, from Abān ibn
