Jarīr ibn Ḥāzim narrated: Ibn Isḥāq told us, from Ṣāliḥ ibn Kaysān, from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbd Allāh, who said:
“I saw Usāmah ibn Zayd reclining by the door of ʿĀʾishah’s apartment, raising his voice in song; and I saw him performing Prayer beside the Prophet’s grave. Marwān passed by and said, ‘Do you pray at a grave!’ He then addressed him with vulgar words. Usāmah replied, ‘O Marwān, you are obscene and make a display of obscenity. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: “Allah detests the one who is obscene and affects obscenity.”’ (1)
Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim said: “When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ learned that the standard had been given to Khālid, he remarked, ‘Why not to a man whose father was killed?’—meaning Usāmah.”
Ibrāhīm ibn Ṭahmān narrated—from ʿUtbah ibn ʿAbd Allāh—from Abū Bakr ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Jahm—who said:
“I entered upon Fāṭimah bint Qays after her husband had divorced her…—the ḥadith. When her waiting-period was over, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked her, ‘Has anyone proposed to you?’ She replied, ‘Yes: Muʿāwiyah and Abū al-Jahm.’ He said, ‘Abū al-Jahm is harsh-tempered, and Muʿāwiyah is a poor man with no wealth. Shall I marry you to Usāmah?’ I exclaimed, ‘Usāmah!’—belittling the idea—then said, ‘I hear and obey Allah and His Messenger.’ So he married me to him, and through him Allah honoured me with Abū Zayd, ennobled me, and raised my standing.” (3)
Mālik transmitted the same meaning—from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd, from Abū Salamah, from her. (4)
