that the Final Hour had already dawned, the people had been gathered together, and ahead stood a place—whoever crossed it would be saved, yet a barrier blocked the way. Then someone said to me, “Do you wish to be delivered while you still hold what you have?” I awoke in fright.
He went on: So he roused his household. He possessed a chest full of gold dinars, and he distributed every last coin.
His kunya was Abu Saʿid; others said it was Abu Ziyad.
100 – Khuzayma ibn Thabit ibn al-Fakih al-Ansari (M, 4)
The son of Thaʿlaba ibn Saʿida, a jurist; Abu ʿAmara al-Ansari, of the Banu Khatma, a Medinan Companion, famed as Dhū al-Shahādatayn (the man whose single testimony counts as two).
Some claimed he fought at Badr, but the sound view is that he was present at Uhud and every engagement thereafter.
He related several hadiths.
He was among the senior figures in ʿAli’s army and was martyred with him on the day of Ṣiffīn.
Those who transmitted from him include his son ʿUmāra, Abu ʿAbd Allah al-Jadali, ʿAmr ibn Maymūn al-Awdī, Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿd ibn Abi Waqqāṣ, and others.
He was killed—may Allah be pleased with him—in the year 37 AH while bearing the banner of the Banū Khatma.
He also took part in the expedition of Muʾta.
