About one hundred and fifty hadiths are narrated on the authority of Buraydah.
92 – ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Bakr al-Ṣiddīq (may Allah be pleased with him)
He was the full brother of the Mother of the Believers ʿĀʾishah. He took part in Badr on the side of the polytheists, but afterwards embraced Islam and emigrated shortly before the Conquest. His grandfather Abū Quḥāfah did not accept Islam until the day of the Conquest. ⦗1⦘ ʿAbd al-Raḥmān was the eldest of al-Ṣiddīq’s children and was counted among the celebrated archers and valiant warriors. On the Day of al-Yamāmah he killed seven of their leading men.

(1) ʿAbd al-Razzaq relates in his Musannaf (20 179) and Muslim (no. 2102, Book of Clothing and Adornment) through the hadith of Jabir ibn ʿAbd Allah: “Abu Quhafa was brought on the day of the conquest of Mecca; his head and beard were white like the blossom of al-thagham. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘Change this with something, but avoid black.’” Al-thagham is a plant with white berries whose colour resembles grey hair.
Ibn Ishaq narrates in al-Maghazi: Yahya ibn ʿUbad ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn al-Zubayr told me, from his father, from his grandmother Asmaʾ bint Abi Bakr: “When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ halted at Dhu Tuwa, Abu Quhafa said to a young daughter of his: ‘My child, what do you see?’ She replied: ‘I see a compact dark mass.’ He said: ‘That is the cavalry.’ She added: ‘I also see a man walking among that darkness, moving back and forth.’ He said: ‘That, my daughter, is the wazeaʿ, the one who commands the horses and rides ahead of them.’
“Then she said: ‘By Allah, the dark mass has spread!’ He answered: ‘By Allah, the cavalry has been released. Hurry and take me home.’ She hurried with him, but the horsemen reached him before he could enter his house. Around the slave-girl’s neck was a silver collar; one of the men seized it from her.
“When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the city and reached the mosque, Abu Bakr ﵁ led his father to him. Seeing him, the Prophet ﷺ said: ‘Why did you not leave the old man in his house so that I might come to him?’ Abu Bakr replied: ‘Messenger of Allah, it is more fitting that he should come to you than that you should go to him.’ The Prophet seated him before him, wiped his chest and said: ‘Accept Islam.’ So he embraced Islam.”
She continued: “Abu Bakr brought him in to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” Al-Hafiz declared the chain sound in al-Isaba, 6/389, and Ibn Hibban authenticated it (no. 1700).
