He also said, “I was permitted to take part in the Battle of the Trench, and the encounter of Buʿāth had occurred when I was six years old.” (1)
Dāwūd ibn Abī Hind—on the authority of Abū Naḍrah, from Abū Saʿīd—reported:
When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, the spokesmen of the Anṣār (Helpers) rose, delivered speeches, and said: “One leader from us and one leader from you.”
Zayd ibn Thābit then stood and declared, “The Messenger of Allah was from the Muhājirīn (Emigrants), and we are his Anṣār. The imām (supreme leader) must therefore be from the Muhājirīn, and we are his Anṣār.”
Abū Bakr replied, “May Allah reward you well, O assembly of the Anṣār, and keep firm the one who spoke for you. Had you said anything else, we would never have reached an agreement with you.” (2)
This chain is sound.
Al-Tayālisī also recorded it in his Musnad, through Wuhaib, from him.
Al-Shaʿbī transmitted—through Masrūq—who said:
The Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ who were recognized for issuing legal verdicts were ʿUmar, ʿAlī, Ibn Masʿūd, Zayd, Ubayy, and Abū Mūsā. (3)
