Jaʿfar ibn Jisr ibn Farqad narrated: My father told us—ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ḥarmalah—from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib—from Ibn ʿUmar, who said:
“The people of Madinah said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, ‘Enter the city in safety and guidance.’ He entered, and the people came out to look at him; whenever he passed a group they would say, ‘Messenger of Allah, stay here.’ He replied, ‘Leave her, for she is under command,’ meaning the she-camel, until she knelt at the door of Abū Ayyūb. (4)”
Yazīd ibn Abī Ḥabīb narrated—from Abū’l-Khayr, from Abū Ruhm—that Abū Ayyūb told him:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ lodged in the lower part of our house while I was in the upper room. Some water spilled in the room, so Umm Ayyūb and I hurried with a quilt of ours, mopping up the water. I then went down and said, ‘Messenger of Allah, it is not proper for us to be above you; please move to the upper room.’ He ordered his belongings and they were moved—his possessions were few.
“I said, ‘Messenger of Allah, whenever you sent down food I would look, and if I saw the trace of your fingers I would place my own hand where yours had been…’ (5)"
