and his face in it, and he rinsed his mouth in it. He then said, “Drink from it, and pour it over your heads and chests.”
They did so. Umm Salamah thereupon called from behind the curtain, “Leave a share for your mother!” So they spared some of it for her. (1)
Mālik ibn Mighwal—and others—relayed from Ibn Buraydah, from his father, who said:
“I left the mosque one night and found the Prophet ﷺ standing at its door while a man was praying. He said to me, ‘Buraidah, do you think he is showing off?’ I replied, ‘Allah and His Messenger know best.’ He said, ‘Rather, he is a devoted believer; he has been given one of the flutes of the family of David.’ I went over to the man, and it was Abū Mūsā; so I informed him. (2)
We were informed by Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad al-Labbān and others that Abū ʿAlī al-Ḥaddād told them; Abū Nuʿaym told us; Ibn Fāris narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn ʿĀṣim reported to us; Zayd ibn al-Ḥubāb, from Mālik ibn Mighwal, narrated to us; from Ibn Buraydah, from his father, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to the mosque while I was at its door. He took me by the hand and led me inside, where a man was praying and supplicating, saying,
‘O Allah, I ask You for I bear witness that You are Allah; there is no god but You, the One, the Self-Sufficient, who neither begets nor is begotten, and to whom none is comparable.’
He said, ‘By the One in whose hand is my soul, he has asked Allah by His Greatest Name—when He is asked with it He gives, and when He is called upon with it He responds.’
We then passed by another man who was reciting, and he said, ‘This man has been given one of the flutes of the family of David.’
I asked, ‘Messenger of Allah, shall I inform him?’
He replied, ‘Yes.’
So I informed him, and he said to me, ‘You will always remain a friend to me.’ And that man was Abū Mūsā. (3)
