(1) Its chain of transmission is sound. It was also recorded by Ibn Abi Shayba in al-Musannaf 1/23, al-Tahawi 79–80, and al-Bayhaqi 1/240 through the route of Waki. (2) Malik relates it in al-Muwatta 1/18, al-Bukhari 1/251-252, and Muslim (no. 235) through ʿAmr ibn Yahya al-Mazani, from his father, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Zayd ibn ʿAsim al-Ansari, who said: “They asked him, ‘Show us the ablution of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.’ He asked for a vessel, poured water from it over his hands and washed them three times. Then he dipped his hand, scooped up water, rinsed his mouth and inhaled water into his nose with a single handful, doing that three times. He dipped his hand again, scooped up water, and washed his face three times. He dipped his hand again and washed his arms up to the elbows twice each. He dipped his hand once more, wiped his head by moving his hands forwards and backwards, and finally washed his feet up to the ankles. He then said, ‘This was the ablution of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.’”
