Shuʿbah likewise reports—through Abu Ishaq, from Silah ibn Zufar, from Hudhayfah—who said, “Purchase a shroud for me.” They brought him an outfit worth three hundred, but he said, “No; buy me two white garments.”
Juzayy ibn Bukayr relates: “When ʿUthman was killed, we were alarmed and made our way to Hudhayfah, so we entered to see him.”
Ibn Saʿd says: “Hudhayfah died at al-Madaʾin after ʿUthman ⦗1⦘, and he left offspring behind. His brother Safwan ibn al-Yaman fought at Uhud.”
77 – Muhammad ibn Maslamah ibn Salamah ibn Khalid al-Ansari (ʿ)
Son of ʿAdi ibn Majdaʿah; his kunya was Abu ʿAbd Allah—though some say Abu ʿAbd al-Rahman, and others Abu Saʿid—an Ansari of the Aws clan.
One of the eminent Companions, he was present at Badr and the other engagements. It is said that the Prophet ﷺ once appointed him as his deputy over Medina.
He kept aloof from the civil strife: he neither joined the Camel engagement nor Siffin. Instead, he fashioned a wooden sword for himself and withdrew to al-Rabadhah, where he stayed for a lengthy period ⦗2⦘.
