It has also been said that he passed away in 34 AH.
Ibn Saʿd reports that he died in 45 AH at the age of seventy; he was buried in Medina, and his line became extinct.⦗1⦘
The Prophet ﷺ established the bond of brotherhood between him and Abū Sabrah ibn Abī Ruhm al-ʿĀmirī, though another narration states that it was between him and al-Zubayr ibn al-ʿAwwām.
71 – al-Nuʿmān ibn Muqarrin, Abū Ḥakīm al-Muzanī — some say Abū ʿAmr al-Muzanī — a commander and Companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
“People will be resurrected after death and taken to an abode that holds both Paradise and Hell, where they will be requited for their deeds.” They answered: “Yes. By the One by whom he swears, a person would wish that his portion of that Fire were only the largest oven on earth: it would be heated, he would be thrown into it, the lid would be shut over him—and that he could thereby escape tomorrow from that other Fire.” They asked him: “Woe to you, what is the sign of this?” He replied: “A prophet will be sent from around these parts,” and he pointed with his hand toward Mecca and Yemen. They said: “When do you expect that?” He looked at me—I was the youngest of them—and said: “If this youth lives out his normal span, he will meet him.”
Salama continues: “By God, scarcely had a few days and nights passed before God sent His Messenger ﷺ while that man was still alive among us. We believed in him, but the man rejected him out of spite and envy. We said to him, ‘Perish, so-and-so! Were you not the one who told us about him?’ He replied, ‘Indeed—but he is not the one.’”
Its chain of transmission is sound, for Ibn Ishaq explicitly stated that he heard it.
