Ismaʿil narrated from al-Shaʿbi, who said:
“Ibn Masʿud had learned a little over seventy surahs—meaning, directly from the Prophet ﷺ—and he acquired the remainder from Mujammiʿ. None of the caliphs from among the Companions compiled the Qur’an in its entirety except ʿUthman. (1)
Abu al-Zahiriyya said: “Abu al-Dardaʾ was one of the last of the Anṣar to accept Islam (2). He had been worshipping an idol, so Ibn Rawaha and Muhammad ibn Maslama entered his house and smashed the idol.

Abu al-Dardaʾ then said, ‘Prepare some water for me in the bath.’ He bathed, donned his best clothes, and went to the Prophet ﷺ.
Ibn Rawaha, seeing him approaching, said, ‘Messenger of Allah, this is Abu al-Dardaʾ, and I think he has come only to look for us.’
The Prophet ﷺ said, ‘He has come only to embrace Islam; my Lord has promised me that Abu al-Dardaʾ would become Muslim.’ (3)
The portion of the report beginning with “He used to worship …” up to its end was transmitted by Muʿawiya ibn Salih, from Abu al-Zahiriyya, from Jubayr ibn Nufayr.
