She was one of the women who pledged allegiance and took part in battle. She transmitted a number of hadiths from the Prophet ﷺ. On the Day of Yarmuk she killed nine Byzantine soldiers with the pole of her tent. She later settled in Damascus, and the grave that lies in the Bāb al-Ṣaghīr cemetery and is said to be that of Umm Salamah is—Allah willing—hers.
Among those who narrated from her are her freedman Muhājir, Shahr ibn Ḥawshab, Mujāhid, Isḥāq ibn Rāshid, her nephew Maḥmūd ibn ʿAmr, and others.
ʿAbd ibn Ḥumayd said, “Asmaʾ bint Yazīd is the same woman known as Umm Salamah al-Anṣāriyyah.”
I say: It is also reported that she was present at the Pledge of Riḍwān and gave her pledge on that day.
It was narrated by Muḥammad ibn Muhājir and his brother ʿAmr, from their father, from Asmaʾ bint Yazīd, whom they described as “the daughter of the paternal uncle of Muʿādh ibn Jabal”—but this is untenable, for Asmaʾ belonged to Banū ʿAbd al-Ashhal whereas Muʿādh was from Banū Salimah. She said, “I killed nine men on the Day of Yarmuk.” (1)
I add: She lived on into the reign of Yazīd ibn Muʿāwiyah.
