- Umm ʿUmārah—Nasībah daughter of Kaʿb ibn ʿAmr ibn ʿAwf ibn Mabdhūl al-Anṣāriyyah (4), the distinguished warrior from the Ansar, of the Khazraj, the Najjār clan, the Māzin branch, a woman of Madinah.
Her brother ʿAbd Allāh ibn Kaʿb al-Māzinī was among those who fought at Badr, while her brother ʿAbd al-Raḥmān was one of the “Weepers.”
Umm ʿUmārah witnessed the Night of al-ʿAqabah and was present at Uḥud, al-Ḥudaybiyah, Ḥunayn, and the Day of Yamāmah. She fought bravely and accomplished remarkable feats.
Several hadiths are transmitted from her, and one of her hands was severed in the course of jihad.
Al-Wāqidī said: She attended Uḥud with her husband Ghazīyah ibn ʿAmr and her two sons (1).
She had gone out carrying a water-skin to give the fighters drink, yet she fought with distinction and sustained twelve wounds (2).
Ḍamrah ibn Saʿīd al-Māzinī would relate from his grandmother—who had also been at Uḥud—that she said:
“I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘The station of Nasībah bint Kaʿb today—’”
