Ḥammād ibn Zayd narrated from Hishām, from Ibn Sīrīn, that ʿUmar sent Sawdah a leather sack filled with dirhams. She asked, “What is this?” They said, “Dirhams.” She replied, “Silver coins in a sack, as though they were dates? Girl, hand me the dish.” She then distributed them all. (1)
A total of five hadiths are transmitted from Sawdah; only one of them is found in the two Ṣaḥīḥs, and that through al-Bukhārī.
Al-Wāqidī reported: Mūsā ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us from Riṭah, from ʿAmrah, from ʿĀʾishah, who said:
“When the Prophet ﷺ arrived in Medina, he dispatched Zayd and sent with him his freedman Abū Rāfiʿ, giving the two of them two camels and five hundred dirhams. We all set out together, and Zayd and Abū Rāfiʿ brought Fāṭimah, Umm Kulthūm, Sawdah bint Zamʿah, Umm Ayman, and her son Usāmah.” (2)
