Others say she was Sanāʾ bint Sufyān. Some maintain that there was only one Kilābiyyah and that the disagreement concerns nothing more than her name, while others assert that they were several women. Al-Ḥākim reports all of this in the chapter on the Mothers of the Believers in his Mustadrak (1).
The nephew of al-Zuhrī narrated—from his uncle, from ʿUrwah, from ʿĀʾishah—that she said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ married the Kilābiyyah. When she entered upon him and he drew near to her, she said, ‘I seek refuge in Allah from you.’ He replied, ‘You have sought refuge with the Great One; go back to your family’ (2).”
Ibn Isḥāq said: “He married ʿAmrah bint Zayd al-Kilābiyyah, but he never consummated the marriage with her.” Ibn Shihāb said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ divorced al-ʿĀliyah bint Ẓabyān; afterwards a paternal cousin of hers married her and she bore him children” (3). It is also said that the Kilābiyyah was ʿAmrah bint Ḥazn—the woman who sought refuge.
36 – The Kindiyyah *
ʿAbd Allah ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAqīl related: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ married a woman from Kindah. She is the unfortunate one who asked him to release her and return her to her people, and he did so” (4).
