Qatādah reported: “He married fifteen women—six from Quraysh, one from their confederates, seven from the other Arab tribes, and one from the Children of Israel.”
Abū ʿUbayd said: “It is firmly established that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ married eighteen women: seven from Quraysh, one from their confederates, nine from the remaining Arab tribes, and one from the Women of the Children of Israel.
The first were Khadījah, then Sawdah, then ʿĀʾishah, then Umm Salamah, then Ḥafṣah; then Zaynab bint Jahsh, then Juwayriyyah, then Umm Ḥabībah, then Ṣafiyyah, then Maymūnah, then Fāṭimah bint Shurayḥ.
He later married: Zaynab bint Khuzaymah, then Hind bint Yazīd, then Asmāʾ bint al-Nuʿmān, then Qutaylah, the sister of al-Ashʿath, then Sanā bint Asmāʾ al-Sulamiyyah (1).
31 – al-ʿĀliyah, a woman of Banū Bakr ibn Kilāb *
Al-Zuhrī said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ married al-ʿĀliyah, a woman from Banū Bakr ibn Kilāb (2).
Abū Muʿāwiyah narrated—from Jamīl ibn Zayd, whose report is weak—from Zayd ibn Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah, from his father, who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ married al-ʿĀliyah from Banū Ghifār; when she was brought in he noticed a white patch on her flank and said, ‘Put your clothes back on and return to your family.’ He nevertheless ordered that she be given the bridal gift (3).”
