Jarir ibn Hazim—on the authority of Abu Fazarah, from Yazid ibn al-Asamm—said:
“We buried Maymunah at Sarif, inside the shelter where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ consummated his marriage with her. During that pilgrimage she had shaved her head. I myself, together with Ibn ‘Abbas, descended into her grave. ⦗1⦘
‘Ata’ related: Maymunah died at Sarif, and I went out with Ibn ‘Abbas to attend her. He said, ‘When you lift her bier, do not jostle it or shake it.’ ⦗2⦘
It is also reported that she passed away in Mecca; at Ibn ‘Abbas’s instruction her body was carried on men’s shoulders to Sarif, and he said, ‘Handle her gently, for she is your mother.’ ⦗3⦘
Al-Waqidi stated: She died during the caliphate of Yazid, in the year 61 AH, at the age of eighty.
I say: She did not live until that date, for she died before ‘Aishah; we have already cited ‘Aishah’s words, ‘Maymunah is gone…’
Khalifah said: She died in the year 51 AH.
Seven of her hadiths appear in the two Sahih collections; al-Bukhari transmits one of them on his own and Muslim five. ⦗4⦘ In total, she narrated thirteen hadiths.
