Hammad ibn Zayd narrates—through Matar al-Warraq (1), from Rabiʿah, from Sulayman ibn Yasar, from Abu Rafiʿ—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ married Maymunah while in a state of permissibility, and I was the envoy between the two of them (2).
Al-Waqidi reports: “Maʿmar told us, from al-Zuhri, from Yazid ibn al-Asamm, from Ibn ʿAbbas, who said: The Prophet ﷺ married her while he was not in ihram” (3).
This report is aberrant, and al-Waqidi is unreliable (matruk). What is authentically established from Ibn ʿAbbas is the opposite.
Ibn Jurayj relates—from ʿAtaʾ, on his authority—that the Prophet ﷺ married her while he was in ihram (4).
Ayyub and Hisham likewise transmit—from ʿIkrimah, on his authority—the same (5).
ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUthman ibn Khuthaym reports—from Saʿid ibn Jubayr, on his authority—the same (6).
And ʿAmr ibn Dinar relates—from Abu al-Shaʿthaʾ, on his authority—something similar (7).
Thus, this report from him is mass-transmitted (mutawatir).
