to her.
He said, “Are you two astonished? This is the supplication I make for anyone who bears witness that there is no god but Allah and that I am the Messenger of Allah.” Narrated by al-Hakim. (1)
Al-Aʿmash related—from Abu Waʾil, from Masruq:
ʿAʾishah said to me, “I saw myself standing on a hill, with cattle being slaughtered all around me.”
I replied, “If your dream is true, a fierce battle will surely take place around you.”
She said, “I seek Allah’s protection from your evil—what an awful thing you have said!”
I said to her, “Perhaps—if it is decreed—it must occur.”
She said, “Falling from the sky would be dearer to me than taking part in that.”
Some time later it was mentioned in her presence that ʿAli, may Allah be pleased with him, had killed the man with the protruding breast. She said to me, “When you reach Kufah, write and tell me the names of those who witnessed it.”
When I arrived there, I found the people split into factions, so I wrote down ten names from each faction and brought their testimonies to her. She said, “May Allah curse ʿAmr, for he claims that he killed him in Egypt.”
Al-Hakim said, “This chain of transmission meets the criteria of al-Bukhari and Muslim.” (2)
Mughīrah ibn Ziyād narrated—from ʿAtāʾ—who said:
“ʿAʾishah was the most insightful of people, the most knowledgeable, and the one whose opinion about public matters was the soundest.”
Al-Bukhari said: “Mūsā ibn Ismāʿīl narrated to us; Abū ʿAwānah narrated to us, from Ḥuṣayn, from Abu Waʾil. Masruq narrated to me, and Umm Rūmān narrated to me:
‘While I was sitting, a woman from the Helpers entered and exclaimed, “May Allah do such-and-such to so-and-so—and such-and-such!”’”
