Siyar Aʿlām al-NubalāʾShams al‑Din al‑Dhahabi

Hammād ibn Salamah reported: Hishām ibn ʿUrwah narrated to us, from ʿAwf ibn al-Ḥārith, from Rumaytha, from Umm Salamah, who said:

“My fellow wives asked me to speak with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ so that he would instruct the people to send him their gifts no matter where he happened to be, for the people wait to present their gifts on the day he is with ʿĀʾishah, while we too desire the good that comes from such gifts.

So I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, my companions have spoken to me…,’ and I conveyed their request to him.

He remained silent and did not reply. Later I spoke to him about it two—or three—more times, and each time he was silent. Then he said, ‘Do not hurt me concerning ʿĀʾishah. By Allah, revelation has never come down upon me while I was beneath the cover of any woman among my wives except ʿĀʾishah.’

I said, ‘I seek refuge in Allah from ever displeasing you regarding ʿĀʾishah.’”

Narrated by al-Nasaʾī. (1)

Yahyā ibn Saʿīd al-Umawī reported to me: Abū al-ʿAnbas Saʿīd ibn Kathīr narrated to me, from his father, who said:

“ʿĀʾishah told us that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned Fāṭimah, whereupon I spoke up. He said, ‘Are you not pleased to be my wife in this world and the Hereafter?’ I replied, ‘Indeed, by Allah.’” (2)

Al-Zuhrī said: “If the knowledge of all people, together with that of the Mothers of the Believers, were gathered, ʿĀʾishah’s knowledge would still be the most expansive.” (3)

Ibn ʿUyaynah narrated—from Mūsā al-Juhanī, from Abū Bakr ibn Ḥafṣ, from ʿĀʾishah—that her parents said to the Prophet ﷺ, “We would like you to pray for ʿĀʾishah while we can hear it.”

He said, “O Allah, forgive ʿĀʾishah with a forgiveness that is binding, outward and inward.”

Her parents were amazed at the excellence of his supplication.

(1) All its transmitters are reliable except Rumaytha, whom only Ibn Hibban declared trustworthy. Nevertheless, al-Hakim judged the hadith sound (4:9–10), and al-Dhahabi concurred. (2) The chain of transmission is strong; al-Hakim authenticated the hadith (4:10), and al-Dhahabi agreed. (3) The report appears in al-Mustadrak, 4:11.
