Ibn Ṣafwān asked, “And what are they?”
She replied, “The angel brought my likeness to the Messenger of Allah, so he married me; he married me while I was a virgin; revelation would come to him when he and I were wrapped in a single blanket; I was one of the people dearest to him; verses were revealed about me—verses over which the whole community almost perished; I saw Gabriel, and none of his other wives saw him; and he died in my house, attended by no one—apart from the angel—except me.”
Al-Ḥākim declared this report authentic. (1)
Al-ʿAwwām ibn Ḥawshab related from Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās, regarding the verse, “Indeed, those who accuse chaste, unsuspecting believing women…” (Qurʾān 24:23): he said, “It was revealed specifically about ʿĀʾishah.” (2)
ʿAlī ibn ʿĀṣim—who is somewhat weak—reported: Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ narrated to us, from Ibn Sīrīn, from al-Aḥnaf, who said:
“I heard the sermons of Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, ʿUthmān, ʿAlī, and the caliphs who succeeded them, yet I have never heard speech from any created being more majestic or more beautiful than the words that issued from the mouth of ʿĀʾishah.” (3)
Mūsā ibn Ṭalḥah said, “I have never seen anyone more eloquent than ʿĀʾishah.” (4)
And in al-Mustadrak, with a sound chain, Umm Salamah narrated that when she heard the lamenting over ʿĀʾishah she said, “By Allah, she was the most beloved of all people to the Messenger of Allah, except for her father.” (5)
