—a similar report, except that he said:
from his father, from Abū Isḥāq, from al-ʿAyzar, from al-Nuʿmān.
It was also transmitted by ʿAmr al-ʿAnqazī (1) from Yūnus, from his father, omitting al-ʿAyzar from the chain.
A comparable version is recorded by Aḥmad in his Musnad (2) through Wakīʿ, from Isrāʾīl, from Abū Isḥāq, from al-ʿAyzar ibn Ḥurayth, from al-Nuʿmān.
Mūsā ibn ʿUlayy ibn Rabāḥ said: I heard my father say: Abū Qays, the freedman of ʿAmr, related to me:
ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr sent me to Umm Salamah with the question, “Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ kiss while he was fasting? If she answers, ‘No,’ then say to her, ‘ʿĀʾishah tells the people that he used to kiss while fasting.’”
She replied, “Perhaps he could not restrain himself out of love for her; as for me, that was not the case.” (3)
Aḥmad also records in his Musnad: ʿUthmān ibn ʿUmar told us, Yūnus al-Aylī told us, Abū Shaddād told us, from Mujāhid, from Asmāʾ bint ʿUmays, who said:
“I was the one who prepared ʿĀʾishah and brought her in to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ together with other women. We found nothing to serve except a cup of milk. He drank from it and then handed it to ʿĀʾishah.
The young bride felt shy, so we said, ‘Do not turn away the hand of the Messenger of Allah; take it from him.’
She accepted it bashfully and drank. Then he said, ‘Pass it to your companions.’
We said, ‘We have no desire for it.’
He replied, ‘Do not combine hunger with falsehood.’
So I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, if one of us says about something she longs for…’”
