Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr narrated—from Abū Salamah—from ʿĀʾishah:
She said to Fāṭimah, “Did you notice how, when you bent over the Messenger of Allah ﷺ you wept, and when you bent over him again you laughed?”
She replied, “He told me that he would die from his illness, so I wept. Then he told me that I would be the quickest of his family to join him, and he said: ‘You are the leader of the women of Paradise, apart from Mary daughter of ʿImrān,’ so I laughed.” (1)
Ibn Ḥumayd narrated: Salamah related to us, Ibn Isḥāq related to us—from Yaḥyā ibn ʿAbbād—from his father—from ʿĀʾishah, who said: “I never saw anyone more truthful in speech than Fāṭimah—except for the one who begot her.” (2)
Jaʿfar al-Aḥmar narrated—from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAtāʾ—from Ibn Buraydah—from his father, who said: “The woman dearest to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was Fāṭimah, and among the men it was ʿAlī.” (3)
Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿd narrated—from his father—from ʿUrwah—from ʿĀʾishah, who related: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ summoned Fāṭimah and spoke to her privately, and she wept; then he spoke to her again, and she laughed. I asked her about it and she said, ‘He informed me of his death, so I wept; then he told me that I would be the first of his household to follow him, so I laughed.’” (4)
Kahmas also narrated—from Ibn Buraydah—who said: “Fāṭimah mourned her father for seventy days and nights. She said to Asmāʾ, ‘I feel embarrassed to go out tomorrow in front of—’ ”
