It was recorded by al-Ḥākim in al-Mustadrak.
In that work, through the isnād of Abān ibn Taghlib—from Abū Bishr, from Abū Naḍrah, from Abū Saʿīd—the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “No one despises us, the People of the Household, except that Allah admits him into the Fire.” (1)
Isrāʾīl, on the authority of Maysarah ibn Ḥabīb, from al-Minhāl ibn ʿAmr, from Zirr, from Ḥudhayfah, narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: “An angel descended and gave me glad tidings that Fāṭimah is the foremost lady of the women of Paradise.” This report is also transmitted from al-Minhāl via another route, and both versions were collected by al-Ḥākim (2).
Yḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr—through Abū Salām, from Abū Asmāʾ, from Thawbān—recounted: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon Fāṭimah while I was with him, and she had a gold necklace around her neck. She said, “Abū al-Ḥasan gave this to me as a present.” He replied, “O Fāṭimah, would you like people to say, ‘This is Fāṭimah, the daughter of Muḥammad, and in her hand is a chain of fire’?” He then left. She used the necklace to buy a slave and set him free (3). The Prophet ﷺ thereupon said, “Praise be to Allah who has delivered Fāṭimah from the Fire.” This was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (4).
(1) Al-Hakim, al-Mustadrak, 3/150, declared the hadith sound, and al-Dhahabi endorsed his judgment. “Abu Bishr” is Jaʿfar ibn Iyas.
(2) Al-Mustadrak, 3/151, likewise graded authentic and confirmed by al-Dhahabi. On the same subject there is a report from Abu Hurayra transmitted by al-Tabarani, quoted by al-Haythami in Majmaʿ al-zawaʾid, 9/201; he remarks that its transmitters are those of the two Sahihs except for Muhammad ibn Marwan al-Dhahli, whom Ibn Hibban deemed trustworthy. See also the agreed-upon hadith of ʿAʾisha in which the Prophet ﷺ said to Fatima: “Are you not pleased to be the mistress of the people of Paradise?”
(3) The printed edition omits the words: “so he set him free.”
(4) The reference is to Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi, author of the Musnad (2/354). The editor should have specified this to avoid confusion with Abu Dawud al-Sijistani, compiler of the Sunan, who is normally intended when the name is left unqualified. The hadith is also recorded by al-Nasai, 8/158 (Kitab al-Zina), and by al-Hakim, 3/152–153, through the chain: Hisham ibn Abi ʿAbd Allah al-Dustuwai → Yahya ibn Abi Kathir → Abu Salam → Abu Asmaʾ → Thawban … ; Ahmad, 5/278–279, narrates it via Hammam, and al-Nasai, 8/158, via Hisham, both from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir, who said: “Zayd ibn Salam told me, from his grandfather Abu Salam, from Abu Asmaʾ al-Rahabi, from Thawban.” All the transmitters in this isnad are reliable, except that …
