ʿAbd al-Aʿlā likewise relates—through Saʿīd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ʿAbbās—in a report traced back to the Prophet: “Al-ʿAbbās is from me, and I am from him.” (1)
ʿAbd al-Aʿlā al-Thaʿlabī is classed as lenient.
Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn said: ʿUbayd ibn Abī Qurrah narrated to us, from al-Layth, from Abū Qabīl, from Abū Maysarah, the client of al-ʿAbbās, who heard al-ʿAbbās say:
“I was with the Prophet ﷺ when he said, ‘Look up at the sky.’ I looked, and he asked, ‘What do you see?’ I replied, ‘The Pleiades.’ He said, ‘Indeed, a number equal to them shall rule this ummah, all descending from your loins.’” (2)
Al-Ḥākim recorded this ḥadīth, but ʿUbayd is not deemed reliable.
Al-Ḥākim also reported that Zahr (3) ibn Ḥiṣn, on the authority of his grandfather Ḥumayd ibn Munhib (4), heard his grandfather Khuraym ibn Aws say:
“I emigrated to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he was returning from Tabūk, and I heard al-ʿAbbās say, ‘O Messenger of Allah, I wish to compose verses in your praise.’ He replied, ‘Recite—may Allah never break your teeth.’ So he said:
‘Before all this you were pure in sheltered shade,
In a guarded repository where leaves were being sewn together…’ (5)
