They asked, “What will be ours if we do that?”
He replied, “Paradise.”
They said, “Then that is yours.” (1)
Ibn Isḥāq narrated: Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd Allāh told me, from ʿIkrimah, who said:
Abū Rāfiʿ related, “I was a young servant of al-ʿAbbās. Islam had already entered our household and al-ʿAbbās had embraced it, yet he feared his people, so he concealed his faith. He still went out to Badr while in that state.” (2)
Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Uways reported: My father narrated to us, from Ibn ʿAbbās ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Maʿbad ibn al-ʿAbbās,
that his grandfather al-ʿAbbās arrived together with Abū Hurayrah, and the Prophet ﷺ allotted each of them a share at Khaybar.
Ibn Saʿd said: Muḥammad ibn ʿUmar told me, “This is an error. Al-ʿAbbās was actually in Mecca when al-Ḥajjāj ibn ʿAlāṭ came and informed Quraysh of news about the Messenger of Allah that pleased them, which distressed al-ʿAbbās. Later al-Ḥajjāj met him privately and told him of the conquest of Khaybar, and he rejoiced. After that, al-ʿAbbās set out, joined the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet assigned him two hundred wasqs each year from Khaybar. He then accompanied him on the expedition that led to the conquest of Mecca.” (3)
Yazīd ibn Abī Ziyād narrated, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ḥārith, from al-Muṭṭalib ibn Rabīʿah, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared, “What is the matter with men who offend me concerning al-ʿAbbās? A man’s uncle stands in the place of his father; whoever harms al-ʿAbbās has harmed me.” (4)
