by Quraysh. The report also notes that the Prophet ﷺ himself put the Black Stone back in its place.
Yunus related from Ibn Ishaq, who said: ʿAbd Allah ibn Abi Bakr ibn Hazm told me, from ʿAmrah, from ʿAʾishah, who said: “We have constantly heard that Isaf and Naʾilah—a man and a woman of the Jurhum tribe—committed fornication inside the Kaʿbah and were consequently turned into two stones.”
Musa ibn ʿUqbah said: “What drove Quraysh to rebuild the Kaʿbah was that floodwaters would pour down upon it, sweeping over the embankment they had constructed and damaging it, so they feared that water might enter the sanctuary. In addition, a man named Maliḥ had stolen the Kaʿbah’s perfume. They therefore resolved to reinforce the structure and raise its door so that only those whom they wished could enter. To that end they set aside funds and secured workmen.”
Zakariyya ibn Ishaq said: ʿAmr ibn Dinar narrated to us that he heard Jabir say: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was helping Quraysh carry stones for the Kaʿbah while wearing an izar. His uncle al-ʿAbbas said to him, ‘Nephew, if you were to loosen your izar and lay it over your shoulder beneath the stones….’ He did so, then fell unconscious, and from that day on he was never again seen naked.” Agreed upon. Al-Bukhari and Muslim also narrated it through the chain of Ibn Jurayj.
Maʿmar narrated, from ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUthman ibn Khuthaym, from Abu al-Tufayl, who said: “When the House was being rebuilt the people were carrying stones and the Prophet ﷺ was with them. He lifted his garment and placed it on his shoulder, whereupon a voice called out, ‘Do not expose your private parts!’ So he dropped the stone and put his garment back on.” Ahmad recorded this in his Musnad.
