—for the one who accepts it with its proper due and discharges the responsibilities it entails (1).
Abū Bakr ibn Abī Maryam narrated—from Ḥabīb ibn ʿUbayd, from Ghuḍayf ibn al-Ḥārith, from Abū al-Dardāʾ—who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would be the first to greet Abū Dharr whenever he was present, and he would inquire after him whenever he was absent (2).”
Fuḍayl ibn Marzūq reported: Jabalah bint Muṣaffaḥ related to me, from Ḥāṭib, that Abū Dharr said:
“The Messenger of Allah did not leave anything that Gabriel and Michael had poured into his breast without pouring it into mine; and I did not leave anything that he poured into my breast without pouring it into the breast of Mālik ibn Ḍamrah (3).”
This report is munkar (anomalous).
ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī al-Rijāl related: ʿUmar, the freedman of Ghufrah, informed us, from Ibn Kaʿb, from Abū Dharr, that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“He counseled me with five matters: that I show mercy to the poor and sit in their company; that I look to those who are below me and not to those who are above me; that I maintain the ties of kinship even if they turn away; that I speak the truth even when it is bitter; and that I say: ‘lā ḥawla wa-lā quwwata illā billāh—there is no power nor might except through Allah’ (4).”
