Ibn Saʿd said, “I heard someone relate that he survived until he died in the time of Muʿāwiyah, during his caliphate (1).
Yahya ibn Bukayr and others asserted that he passed away in 34 AH.
Ḍamrah narrated—on the authority of Rajāʾ ibn Abī Salamah—that ʿUbādah’s grave is in Bayt al-Maqdis.
Al-Haytham ibn ʿAdī held that he died in 45 AH.
I say: Baqī recorded for him in his Musnad one hundred and eighty-one hadiths, and he has six narrations in the collections of al-Bukhārī and Muslim. Al-Bukhārī alone relates two of them, and Muslim alone relates two (2).
2 – Abū Ḥudhāfah al-Sahmī, ʿAbd Allah ibn Ḥudhāfah ibn Qays (S).
Ibn ʿAdī cites him: Abū Ḥudhāfah al-Sahmī.
He was one of the early forerunners, emigrated to Abyssinia, and the Prophet ﷺ dispatched him as an envoy to Kisrā (3).
Only a small number of reports are transmitted from him.
