The Imam, the exemplar, Abū al-Walīd al-Anṣārī; one of the twelve nuqabāʾ on the Night of ʿAqabah and among the foremost of the Badr veterans.
He later took up residence in Bayt al-Maqdis.
Those who transmitted hadith from him include: Abū Umāmah al-Bāhilī, Anas ibn Mālik, Abū Muslim al-Khawlānī the ascetic, Jubayr ibn Nufayr, Junādah ibn Abī Umayyah, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿUsaylah al-Ṣunābihī, Maḥmūd ibn al-Rabīʿ, Abū Idrīs al-Khawlānī, Abū al-Ashʿath al-Ṣanʿānī, his son al-Walīd ibn ʿUbādah, Abū Salamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, and Khālid ibn Maʿdān—these last two never met him, so their reports are considered mursal—as well as his stepson Abū Ubayy, Kathīr ibn Murrah, Ḥiṭṭān ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Raqāshī, and others.
Ibn Isḥāq, in his list of those who witnessed the first ʿAqabah pledge, names ʿUbādah ibn al-Ṣāmit; he was present at every engagement alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
