from ʿAlqamah, from ʿAbd Allah, who said:
The Prophet ﷺ had me recite Sūrat al-Nisāʾ to him while he was standing on the pulpit. I continued until I reached the verse, “Then how will it be when We bring from every community a witness, and We bring you as a witness against these?” (4:41). The Prophet’s eyes filled with tears and he said, “Whoever would like to recite the Quran fresh, just as it was revealed, let him recite according to the recitation of Ibn Umm ʿAbd.” (1)
Mifḍal was deemed unreliable by Abū Ḥātim, though others regarded him as acceptable. (2)
Al-Humaydī, in his Musnad, recorded: Sufyān (3) narrated to us; al-Masʿūdī narrated to us, from al-Qāsim—
The Prophet ﷺ said to Ibn Masʿūd, “Recite.” He replied, “Shall I recite when it was revealed to you?!” … and he related the remainder of the report. (4)
Sunqur al-Qaḍāʾī informed us; ʿAbd al-Laṭīf ibn Yūsuf, ʿAbd al-Laṭīf ibn Muḥammad al-Qubbaīṭī, and a group [of scholars] said:
Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Bāqī narrated to us; Mālik ibn Aḥmad narrated to us; Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ṣalt narrated to us; Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-Ṣamad narrated to us; ʿUbayd ibn Asbāṭ narrated to us; my father narrated to me; Sufyān narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr, from Ribʿī, from Ḥudhayfah, who said:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Follow the two who will come after me: Abū Bakr and ʿUmar; seek guidance through the example of ʿAmmār; and hold fast to the covenant of Ibn Umm ʿAbd.” (5)
