Ibrāhīm ibn al-Ḥajjāj al-Sāmī (1), from Salām Abū al-Mundhir, from ʿĀṣim; in his wording he said: “So I brought him a hollowed stone and he milked into it. I then embraced Islam and came back to him.” (2)
ʿUbayd Allah ibn Mūsā and others related to us: Isrāʾīl narrated to us, from al-Miqdām ibn Shurayḥ, from his father, from Saʿd, who said:
“We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ—six of us in all. The idolaters said, ‘Drive these people away from you, so they will not dare confront us.’ I was one of them, together with Ibn Masʿūd, a man from Hudhayl, and two others whose names I have forgotten. Something entered the Prophet’s heart ﷺ, as Allah willed, and he spoke to himself about it. Thereupon Allah—Exalted is He—revealed: ‘And do not repel those who call upon their Lord morning and evening’ (al-Anʿām (3): 52–53).”
This report was also transmitted by Qabīṣah, from al-Thawrī, from al-Miqdām.
Ibn Isḥāq said: Yaḥyā ibn ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr told me, from his father, who said: “The first person to recite the Quran aloud in Mecca after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was ʿAbd Allah ibn Masʿūd.” (4)
Abū Bakr, from ʿĀṣim, from Zirr, said: “The first one to recite a verse from memory was ʿAbd Allah ibn Masʿūd.” (5)
