Ismāʿīl ibn Mujālid narrated to us, from Bayān (1), from Wabara, from Hammām, who said:
ʿAmmār said: “I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when he had with him only five slaves, two women, and Abū Bakr (2).”
Al-Bukhārī included this report, transmitting it from ʿAbd Allāh—one of his teachers, said to be Ibn Ḥammād al-Āmilī. It has also been said that the transmitter was ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī al-Khawārizmī, who reported it from Yaḥyā ibn Maʿīn.
The report is unique and singular (fard, gharīb); to the best of my knowledge no one related it from Bayān ibn Bishr except Ismāʿīl, and no one besides al-Bukhārī recorded it.
Al-Aʿmash and others narrated from Abū Wāʾil, who said:
Abū Maysarah ʿAmr ibn Shuraḥbīl saw Dhū al-Kalāʿ and ʿAmmār in white pavilions in the courtyard of Paradise. He asked, “Did not some of you kill others?” They replied, “Indeed, but we found Allah vast in forgiveness (3).”
End of the biography, and praise belongs to Allah.
85 – Reports concerning al-Najāshī, King of Abyssinia
His name was Aṣḥamah, King of Abyssinia, and he is counted among the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them). His Islam was sound (4); he did not emigrate, nor did he see the Prophet, so in one respect he is a Successor and in another a Companion. He passed away during the Prophet’s lifetime, and the Prophet led the people in the funeral prayer in absentia for him (5).
