Bilāl, and Salmān(1).
Jaʿfar al-Aḥmar corroborated him, transmitting from Kathīr.
Al-Ḥasan ibn Ṣāliḥ narrated, from Abū Rabīʿah, from al-Ḥasan, from Anas—with the chain traced back to the Prophet—who said: “Three people for whom Paradise longs: ʿAlī, Salmān, and ʿAmmār(2).”
Abū Isḥāq narrated, from Hāniʾ ibn Hāniʾ, from ʿAlī, who said:
ʿAmmār sought permission to enter upon the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet asked, “Who is that?”
He replied, “ʿAmmār.”
The Prophet said, “Welcome to the good, purified man(3).”
This was recorded by al-Tirmidhī.
ʿAththām ibn ʿAlī narrated, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Isḥāq, from Hāniʾ ibn Hāniʾ, who said:
We were sitting with ʿAlī when ʿAmmār entered. ʿAlī said, “Welcome to the good, purified man. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, ‘Indeed, ʿAmmār has been filled with faith up to the marrow of his bones(4).’ ”
Sufyān narrated, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū ʿAmmār al-Hamdānī, from ʿAmr ibn Shurahbīl: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “ʿAmmār has been filled with faith up to the marrow of his bones(4).”
(1) Reported by Ahmad 1/88, 142, 148, 149, and by al-Tirmidhi, nos. 3787 and 3791, in the chapter on the Companions’ merits; al-Tirmidhi judged it “a hasan gharib (sound yet singular) narration.” He said so even though Kathir al-Nawwa is a weak transmitter.
(2) The documentation has already been given on p. 355, note 1.
(3) The chain of transmission is strong. It is also related by al-Tirmidhi, no. 3799, in the chapter on the merits of Ammar b. Yasir; by Ibn Majah, no. 146, in the Introduction, “The virtues of the Companions”; by Abu Nuaym in Hilyat al-awliya, 1/140 and 7/135; and by al-Hakim in al-Mustadrak, 3/388, who declared it sound—a ruling endorsed by al-Dhahabi. Here the word tayyib is to be understood in its obvious, literal sense.
(4) Reported by Ibn Majah, no. 147, in the Introduction, chapter “The merit of Ammar b. Yasir”; by Abu Nuaym, Hilyat al-awliya, 1/139; and, in a fuller version, by al-Haythami in Majmaʿ al-zawaʾid, 9/395, citing al-Bazzar and noting that its transmitters are those of the Sahih. The isnad can be upgraded to the level of hasan.
(5) All its transmitters are trustworthy. It is also recorded by al-Nasa’i, 8/111, in the book of Iman, chapter on the varying excellence of believers, and by al-Hakim, 3/392. Ibn Hajar remarks in Fath al-bari, 7/92: al-Bazzar narrated—on the authority of Aisha—“I heard the Messenger of Allah…”
