and ʿAmmār (1).
Abū Isḥāq narrated—from Abū ʿUbaydah, from ʿAbd Allāh—who said:
“On the Day of Badr ʿAmmār, Saʿd, and I formed a partnership regarding whatever booty we might obtain. Neither ʿAmmār nor I brought anything, whereas Saʿd captured two men (2).”
Jarīr ibn Ḥāzim reported, from al-Ḥasan, from ʿAmmār, who said:
“I fought alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ against both jinn and humans.”
He was asked, “How so?”
He replied, “We were traveling with the Prophet ﷺ and stopped at a campsite. I took my waterskin and bucket in order to draw water. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘Someone will come to the water and try to stop you from it.’ When I reached the rim of the well, a black figure appeared, as dark as a lump of pitch, and said, ‘By Allah, you will not draw water from it today.’
“He seized me and I seized him; I threw him to the ground, picked up a stone, and smashed his face and nose. Then I filled my waterskin and returned to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
“He asked, ‘Did anyone come to you at the water?’ I replied, ‘Yes (3),’ and I recounted the whole incident.
“He said, ‘Do you know who it was?’ I said, ‘No.’
“He answered, ‘That was Satan (4).’”
Fiṭr ibn Khalīfah narrated, from Kathīr an-Nawwāʾ: I heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn Mulayl (5) say, “I heard ʿAlī say that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ declared: ‘No prophet was ever sent without being given seven companions—noble ministers. As for me, I have been given fourteen: Ḥamzah, Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, ʿAlī, Jaʿfar, Ḥasan, Ḥusayn, Ibn Masʿūd, Abū Dharr, al-Miqdād, Ḥudhayfah, and ʿAmmār—’
