Hudayr (1).
The Prophet ﷺ paired him in brotherhood with Abū Hudhayfah ibn ʿUtbah ibn Rabīʿah.
A report with a weak chain from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī states that ʿAbbad ibn Bishr was heard saying: “Last night I saw—as though the sky were opened for me and then closed in upon me—so, God willing, it is a sign of martyrdom.”
On the Day of al-Yamāmah he was seen crying out, “Break the scabbards of your swords!” He fought on until he was killed by blows to the face, may Allah be pleased with him.
Ibn Isḥāq relates—from Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar ibn al-Zubayr, from ʿAbbad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Zubayr, from ʿĀʾishah—who said:
“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ rose for the night prayer in my house and heard the voice of ʿAbbad ibn Bishr. He said, ‘O ʿĀʾishah, is that the voice of ʿAbbad ibn Bishr?’ I replied, ‘Yes.’ He then said, ‘O Allah, forgive him (2).’”
Hammād ibn Salamah reports—from Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq, from Ḥuṣayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Khaṭmī, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Thābit al-Anṣārī, from ʿAbbad ibn Bishr—that the Prophet ﷺ said: “O assembly of the Anṣār! You are the inner garment, while the people are the outer cloak (3).”
