Mālik said: He and ʿAmr ibn al-Jamūḥ were wrapped in a single shroud.
Al-Awzāʿī relates—from al-Zuhrī, from Jābir—that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to bury the martyrs of Uḥud he said, “Shroud them just as they are, with their wounds, for I attest on their behalf.” My father, then, was enshrouded in a namira (a striped cloak). (1)
Ibn Saʿd said:
“They say that ʿAbd Allāh was the first to be killed on the Day of Uḥud. He was ruddy-complexioned, bald, and not tall, whereas ʿAmr ibn al-Jamūḥ was tall. The two were buried together beside the flood-course, but a torrent later exposed them. They were both still wrapped in a namira. ʿAbd Allāh had been struck on the face; his hand was resting on the wound. When the hand was lifted, the blood flowed; when it was replaced, the bleeding stopped.”
Jābir said: “I looked at my father in his grave and he seemed to be sleeping; nothing about him had changed, and forty-six years had passed. They were then moved to another location, and we brought them out still fresh, their bodies flexible. (2)
Abū al-Zubayr relates—from Jābir—who said: “We were summoned to our slain when Muʿāwiyah ordered the canal to be dug; we exhumed them, finding their bodies soft, their limbs bending easily. (3)
Ibn Abī Nujaḥ relates—from ʿAṭāʾ, from Jābir—who said: “A man had been buried with my father, and I could not rest until I removed him and buried my father alone. (4)"
