ʿAbd Allah ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAqīl narrates—from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allah—that he said:
“The wife of Saʿd ibn al-Rabīʿ came with Saʿd’s two daughters and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! These are the daughters of Saʿd. Their father was killed alongside you on the Day of Uḥud as a martyr, and their uncle has taken their entire property, leaving them with nothing. They cannot be married unless they possess some wealth.’ He replied, ‘Allah will judge concerning that.’
“Then the verse on inheritance was revealed, and he sent for their uncle and said, ‘Give the two daughters of Saʿd two-thirds, give their mother one-eighth, and whatever remains is yours.’ (2)
Khārijah ibn Zayd ibn Thābit reports from his father that he said:
‘On the Day of Uḥud the Prophet ﷺ sent me to look for Saʿd ibn al-Rabīʿ. He told me, “If you find him, convey my greetings to him and say: ‘The Messenger of Allah says to you: How do you find yourself?’”
‘I walked among the slain until I came upon him in his final breaths; he bore seventy wounds. I delivered the message, and he replied, “Peace be upon the Messenger of Allah and upon you. Tell him: ‘O Messenger of Allah, I can smell the fragrance of Paradise.’ And say to my people, the Helpers: ‘You have no excuse before Allah if harm reaches the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while even one eyelid of yours is still flickering.’” (3)
