Ahmad).
He was martyred on the Day of Yarmūk—though some say on the Day of Ajnādayn—together with his two brothers, may Allah be pleased with them.
ʿAmr ibn Saʿīd al-Ashdaq relates that when his uncles Khalid, Abān, and ʿAmr learned of the death of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, they relinquished their posts. Abu Bakr said, “No one is more entitled to remain in office than the officials appointed by the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Return to your duties.” They refused, set out for Syria, and were killed there, may Allah be pleased with them.
51 – al-ʿAlāʾ ibn al-Ḥaḍramī (may Allah be pleased with him)
His full name is al-ʿAlāʾ ibn ʿAbd-Allāh ibn ʿImād (1) ibn Akbar ibn Rabīʿah ibn Muqannaʿ ibn Ḥaḍramawt.
He was an ally of the Banū Umayyah and one of the leading Emigrants.
His brother Maymūn ibn al-Ḥaḍramī—after whom the Well of Maymūn in the upper part of Mecca is named—dug it before the advent of Islam.
Their other brothers were ʿAmr and ʿĀmir.

(1) The manuscript reads “Imad” with a mim. The same form is found in Tahdhib and its related works, as well as in al-Isaba, al-Isti‘ab, and Fath al-Bari 7/267. The copyist, however, has written above it the correction “Abbad” with a ba, and this is the reading adopted by Ibn Hisham’s Sira and Usd al-Ghaba; the text will shortly cite it again in the biography, on the authority of Ibn Ishaq, as “Abbad.”
