is this, O Messenger of Allah?”
He replied, “The longing of the beloved for his beloved.” (1)
This was narrated by Musaddad and Sulayman ibn Harb from him.
Husayn ibn Waqid narrated—from Ibn Buraydah, from his father—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “I entered Paradise, and there a young maiden met me. I asked, ‘Whom do you belong to?’ She answered, ‘I belong to Zayd ibn Harithah.’” (2)
Its chain of transmission is hasan. (3)
37 – ʿAbd Allah ibn Rawahah ibn Thaʿlabah ibn Imruʾ al-Qays al-Ansari*
Ibn Thaʿlabah.
The commander, the blessed one, the martyr, Abu ʿAmr al-Ansari, al-Khazraji, a Badr veteran, envoy, and poet.
He narrated from the Prophet ﷺ and from Bilal.
Narrated from him: Anas ibn Malik and al-Nuʿman ibn Bashir; and related from him second-hand: Qays ibn Abi—
(1) All the transmitters are trustworthy, yet the chain is formally broken. Khalid ibn Salama, son of al-As ibn Hisham ibn al-Mughira al-Makhzumi, belongs to the fifth generation of narrators. He was killed in 132 AH at Wasit, after the collapse of the Umayyad state. Ibn Saad also records the report (3/1/32), but there the name “Khalid ibn Salama” is mistakenly written “Khalid ibn Shamir.”
(2) Its isnad is judged sound (hasan). The report is mentioned in Kanz al-ummal (nos. 33299, 33302) and ascribed to al-Ruyani, al-Diya in al-Mukhtara, and Ibn Asakir.
(3) The printed edition omits the note “its isnad is hasan.”
