36 – Zayd ibn Ḥārithah al-Kalbī,
son of Sharāḥīl—or Shuraḥbīl—son of Kaʿb, son of ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā, son of Yazīd, son of Imruʾ al-Qays, son of ʿĀmir, son of al-Nuʿmān.
The commander, the martyr, the prophetic companion who is mentioned by name in Sūrat al-Aḥzāb; Abū Usāmah al-Kalbī—later called al-Muḥammadī—the leader of the freedmen and the very first of them to accept Islam; the beloved of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the father of his beloved. The Messenger ﷺ loved only that which was pure.
Allah—exalted is He—has named in His Book no Companion save Zayd ibn Ḥārithah, and ʿĪsā ibn Maryam (peace be upon him), who will descend as a just arbiter and will join this blessed community in its prayer, fasting, pilgrimage, marriage, and every ruling of the upright faith. Just as Abū al-Qāsim is the leader, the best, and the seal of the prophets, so too will Jesus, after his descent, be the best of this community without exception and its last; after him no one possessing any good will appear. Instead, the sun will rise from the west and Allah will permit the Hour to draw near. ⦗1⦘
