Ḥammād ibn Salamah, on the authority of Thābit—and ʿAwf, on the authority of Muḥammad—transmitted that the Prophet ﷺ said those very words to Jaʿfar (1).
Al-Shaʿbī said: Whenever Ibn ʿUmar greeted ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar he would say, “Peace be upon you, son of the two-winged one” (2).
Ibn Isḥāq related—from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Bakr ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from Umm Salamah, in connection with their migration to the land of the Negus, some of which has already been mentioned—that she said:

“His courtiers said, ‘They have spoken the truth, O King.’
“The king grew angry and said, ‘No—by Allah—I will not hand them back until I have spoken with them. They are people who have sought asylum in my realm and chosen my protection.’ Nothing was more hateful to ʿAmr and Ibn Abī Rabīʿah than for the king to hear what the refugees had to say.
“When the Negus’s envoy came to them, the group assembled, and the spokesman was Jaʿfar ibn Abī Ṭālib.
“The Negus asked, ‘What is this religion of yours?’
“They replied, ‘O King, we were a people steeped in polytheism: we worshipped idols, ate carrion, neglected our neighbours, and deemed unlawful relations and bloodshed permissible. Then Allah sent us a Prophet from among ourselves—whose lineage, truthfulness, and trustworthiness we know. He called us to worship Allah alone, to maintain family ties, to treat neighbours well, and to establish prayer and observe the fast.’
“He said, ‘Do you have with you anything of what he has brought?’—and he had already summoned his bishops,
