ʿĀʾishah reported:
“When the news of Jaʿfar’s death arrived, we could read sorrow on the Prophet’s ﷺ face.” (1)
Abū Shaybah al-ʿAbsī narrated—al-Ḥakam told us, from Miqsam, from Ibn ʿAbbās—that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“I saw Jaʿfar ibn Abī Ṭālib in Paradise as an angel, the leading edges of his wings soaked with blood, flying about the Garden.” (2)
ʿAbd Allah ibn Jaʿfar al-Madīnī narrated, through al-ʿAlāʾ from his father, from Abū Hurayrah, traced back to the Prophet ﷺ:
“I saw Jaʿfar with two wings in Paradise.” (3)
A similar report is transmitted from Ibn ʿAbbās and al-Barāʾ, traced back to the Prophet ﷺ.
It is also said that he lived a little over thirty years.

(2) Al-Hakim, 3/209, also transmits it through Zamʿah b. Salih → Salamah b. Wuharam → Ikrimah → Ibn Abbas and rules it sound; the report is likewise found in Ibn Abd al-Barr, al-Istiʿab, 2/154. Ibn Hajar notes in Fath al-Bari, 7/76, that al-Hakim and al-Tabarani both relate the hadith from Ibn Abbas, adding that another chain from him is “good.” See the next note as well.
(3) The isnad is weak because of Abd Allah b. Jaʿfar al-Madini. Al-Tirmidhi (no. 3767, “Merits,” chapter on the merits of Jaʿfar) and al-Hakim, 3/209, also record it; both al-Tirmidhi and al-Dhahabi considered the defect to lie with this Abd Allah. Nevertheless, the report is supported by the previous narration and by what al-Hakim, 3/213, transmits with a chain that meets Muslim’s criteria, as Ibn Hajar remarks in Fath al-Bari, 7/76: Abu Hurayrah relates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Jaʿfar passed by me tonight in the midst of a company of angels; his two wings were soaked with blood, yet his heart was white.” Al-Bukhari (no. 3709), through the route of al-Shaʿbi, reports that whenever Ibn Umar greeted Ibn Jaʿfar he would say, “Peace be upon you, O son of the two-winged one.”
وَعَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ:
لَمَّا جَاءتْ وَفَاةُ جَعْفَرٍ، عَرَفْنَا فِي وَجْهِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ الحُزْنَ (١) .
أَبُو شَيْبَةَ العَبْسِيُّ: حَدَّثَنَا الحَكَمُ، عَنْ مِقْسَمٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ:
قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللهِ ﷺ: (رَأَيْتُ جَعْفَرَ بنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ مَلَكاً فِي الجَنَّةِ، مُضَرَّجَةً قَوَادِمُهُ بِالدِّمَاءِ، يَطِيْرُ فِي الجَنَّةِ (٢)) .
عَبْدُ اللهِ بنُ جَعْفَرٍ المَدِيْنِيُّ: عَنِ العَلاَءِ، عَنْ أَبِيْهِ:
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ مَرْفُوْعاً: (رَأَيْتُ جَعْفَراً لَهُ جَنَاحَانِ فِي الجَنَّةِ) (٣) .
وَجَاءَ نَحْوُهُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، وَالبَرَاءِ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ.
وَيُقَالُ: عَاشَ بِضْعاً وَثَلاَثِيْنَ سَنَةً ﵁.

وأخرجه الترمذي (٣٧٦٧) في المناقب: باب مناقب جعفر، والحاكم ٣ / ٢٠٩ وبعبد الله هذا أعله كل من الترمذي والذهبي.
لكنه يتقوى بما قبله، وبما أخرجه الحاكم ٣ / ٢١٣ بإسناد صحيح على شرط مسلم كما قال الحافظ في " الفتح " ٧ / ٧٦ عن أبي هريرة قال: قال رسول الله، ﷺ، مربي جعفر الليلة في ملا من الملائكة، وهو مخضب الجناحين بالدم أبيض الفؤاد.
وفي البخاري (٣٧٠٩) من طريق الشعبي أن ابن عمر، ﵁، كان إذا سلم على ابن جعفر، قال: السلام عليك يا ابن ذي الجناحين.
