Among those who transmitted from him were his brother ʿAwn, al-Zuhrī, ʿĀṣim ibn ʿUbayd Allah, and ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd al-Khaṭṭābī.
He was part of the entourage of the caliph Sulaymān.
Ibn Saʿd said: “Reliable, but he narrates few reports. A scorching desert wind (samūm) killed him at al-Abwāʾ(1) in the year 97 AH while he was with the caliph Sulaymān, who then led the funeral prayer over him.”
31 – Saʿīd ibn al-Ḥārith ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib*
A cousin of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
He is known by a single ḥadīth: “Whoever meets Allah as a believer will enter Paradise.”(2)
It was related from him by Salmān al-Aghar, though the chain includes Ibn Lahīʿa.
Al-Ḥākim mentioned him among the Companions in his Ṣaḥīḥ, and I have not seen anyone else who records him.
32 – Abū Sufyān ibn al-Ḥārith, al-Mughīra ibn al-Ḥārith al-Hāshimī**
He, too, was a cousin of the Prophet ﷺ: al-Mughīra ibn al-Ḥārith ibn ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib ibn Hāshim, of Banū Hāshim.
Brother of Nawfal and Rabīʿa.
(1) al-Abwaʾ is a village that belongs to the district of al-Farʿ near Medina; it lies between Medina and al-Juhfa, on the side of Medina, at a distance of twenty-three miles. It contains the grave of Aminah bint Wahb, the Prophet’s mother.
The word samum denotes a scorching wind; some, however, say that it is a cold wind, whether by night or by day. It can be used as both a noun and an adjective, and its plural is samamim.

(2) Reported by al-Hakim, 3/247. Ibn Hajar cites it in al-Isaba, 4/184-185, and remarks: “Its chain contains Ibn Lahiʿa, who is weak. I have found no biographical notice for this Saʿid in the genealogical works.” Al-Daraqutni also mentioned it in his Kitab al-Ikhwah and related the same hadith.
