, by Abū ʿUbayda ibn al-Jarrah, thus becoming the first member of this community to serve as deputy-governor of Damascus (1).
Only a small number of hadiths are reported from him: two appear in the two Ṣaḥīḥs, and al-Bukhārī alone records one additional report (2).
Among those who transmitted from him are Ibn ʿUmar, Abū al-Ṭufayl, ʿAmr ibn Ḥurayth, Zirr ibn Ḥubaysh, Abū ʿUthmān al-Nahdī, ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr, ʿAbdullāh ibn Ẓālim, Abū Salamah ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, and a number of others.
I read to Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd; the Imām Abū Muḥammad ibn Qudāmah informed you in the year 618 AH; Shuhdah bint Aḥmad al-Kātibah informed us during my reading; Ṭirād ibn Muḥammad az-Zaynabī informed us; Ibn Rizqawayh informed us; Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyā aṭ-Ṭāʾī informed us in the year 339 AH; ʿAlī ibn Ḥarb narrated to us; Sufyān narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr, from ʿAmr ibn Ḥurayth, from Saʿīd ibn Zayd ibn ʿAmr, from the Prophet ﷺ who said:
“Truffles are part of the manna that Allah sent down upon the Children of Israel, and their liquid is a cure for the eye.”
Al-Bukhārī (3) recorded it through the route of Ibn ʿUyaynah, and it has reached us by way of this higher-level chain.
