Ibn ʿUyaynah narrated—from Suʿayr ibn al-Khams (1), from Ḥabīb ibn Abī Thābit, from Ibn ʿUmar—that the Messenger of Allah said, “Ten men of Quraysh are in Paradise: Abū Bakr …,” and he went on to name all ten. (2)
Ibn Abī ʿUmar, together with a number of scholars, conveyed to us—by authorisation—saying:
“Hanbal informed us; Hibat Allāh informed us; Ibn al-Mudhhib informed us; Aḥmad ibn Jaʿfar reported to us; ʿAbd Allāh ibn Aḥmad narrated to us; my father related to me; Muḥammad (3) ibn Jaʿfar told us; Shuʿbah narrated from Ḥuṣayn, from Hilāl ibn Yasāf, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ẓālim, who said:
Al-Mughīrah once gave a sermon and spoke disparagingly of ʿAlī. Saʿīd ibn Zayd thereupon came out and said, ‘Are you not amazed at this man reviling ʿAlī? I bear witness before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that we were on Ḥirā’ or Uḥud when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Stand firm, O Ḥirā’, or Uḥud! Upon you are only a prophet, a man of absolute truthfulness, or a martyr.”’
He then listed: the Prophet, Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, ʿUthmān, ʿAlī, Ṭalḥah, al-Zubayr, Saʿd, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, and Saʿīd also included himself—may Allah be pleased with them all. (4)
This report has several chains; among them is the following:
