It was transmitted by al-Zubaidī (1) and a number of others from al-Zuhrī, and by Saʿd ibn Ibrāhīm from his father.
Ibn Lahīʿah related—through Abū al-Aswad, from ʿUrwah—that ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf left a bequest of fifty thousand dinars in the cause of Allah, from which each beneficiary received one thousand dinars.
Al-Zuhrī also reported that ʿAbd al-Raḥmān set aside a legacy for the veterans of Badr. They located one hundred of them and he gave each man four hundred dinars; ʿUthmān was among them and accepted his share.
In another chain, al-Zuhrī stated that ʿAbd al-Raḥmān donated one thousand horses for the sake of Allah.
Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿd (2) said—on the authority of his father, from his grandfather—that he heard ʿAlī say on the day ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf died: “Go, son of ʿAwf; you have reached the choicest part of it and outstripped its dregs (3).” (Ar-ranq denotes turbidity.)
Saʿd ibn Ibrāhīm narrated from his father: I saw Saʿd at the funeral of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf, walking before the bier and exclaiming, “wā jabalāh! (4)” A number of transmitters relate this from Saʿd.
Maʿmar related—through Thābit, from Anas—who said: I witnessed that after the death of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf, one hundred thousand dinars were apportioned to each of his wives.
